Am I Supposed To Buy This?

I thought perhaps I could take a little vacation from blogging, but a story came up in the news that I cannot ignore. The more I hear it, the angrier it makes me.

I can already hear the response of the critics before I write this piece, but someone has to say it. It certainly is not being said by the major media.

George W Bush FINALLY accepted responsibility for the ineffective leadership of a branch under his control and vowed to do what it takes to fix the problem. He admitted to the existence of the underclass with strong roots of racism keeping certain people behind.

Call me a cynic. I am. When Bush was running for office in the beginning, he did not know nor did he even display an intellectual curiosity to find out who the leaders were of Canada and Mexico. On those grounds alone I did not think he was the best material to be the leader of our own country.

How exactly did he get in the first time around? Let me see...there seemed to be a question in Florida when DISENFRANCHISED AFRICAN-AMERICAN VOTERS were brushed aside and NEVER been acknowledge of this offense to their civil rights. Now Bush wants to suddenly appear sympathetic with the poverty amassed upon the minority populations?

What has been his track record with issues affecting African-Americans and other minority citizens? When it comes to education and the so-called "No Child Left Behind" programme as well as strongly favouring vouchers for children to go to private and religious schools, his plan was never taking into consideration the needs of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged schools of the nation. If they failed to do well, funding would be cut. Schools that were already underfunded, understaffed, and ill-prepared were not getting assistance in advance to catch up to the level of acceptance and set to fail for help from the plan.

Let's see, how many times has Bush met with NAACP? How about at least during the time of election? What about meeting with ANY minority group that is not a Republican based organization? I think his record goes to show how much he REALLY cares about how the racial issues affect the poverty.

And about the poverty itself...how much does he REALLY care? Tax cuts to the rich, breaks to companies to ship well paying jobs to other countries, welfare-to-work, cut in socio-economic programs to give the poor access to food, housing and health care... I could go on, but I deflect on it for now.

Now, why exactly is he taking the blame for this one? There were many people at fault for this malfunction of action. On the Federal level, he was just the ring leader to this circus show. He cut the funds needed to repair the levee in New Orleans which led to the massive flooding problem that killed many people. With all the tax breaks for the rich, there was not enough money in circulation to help with such problems.

It also did not help that, and I know you on the Right probably do not want to hear it again, he started a war based on lies!!! Yes, it is too late to undo the damage that has been done. We cannot undo a war and the damage we have created in Iraq nor the damage of the US reputation around the world and to make our citizens and the citizens of Iraq more in danger from the terrorists, but doesn't there come a point where Bush can just admit he missed the mark here?

What happened in the Deep South was tragic. What happened in Iraq was even more massive. If Bush had acted wisely, he would have finished up in Afghanistan, found Osama and brought all troops back home without picking on Iraq. There were truly more serious threats around the world and more evil dictators who were doing worse to their people than Saddam.

By butting into this problem, we have destabilized a stable government, both here and in Iraq. And in the process of no bid contracts, the rich buddies of Bush and Cheney won the rights to rebuild and make lots of money from the tragedy they created...Just like in New Orleans.

Where exactly is this liberal media? I stand somewhere in the middle of the Left and Right and I can't even keep quiet about this. Why exactly is the media not jumping all over this if it is indeed so liberal? Why is he getting praise for taking responsibility now when his inaction made this situation worse than it had to be due to his coming into office over 4 years ago?

My prediction...time will pass. Bigger stories will becloud what happened with the hurricane. Financial issues will deflect the promised funds and aid to those who needed it the most. Victims will be cheated out of the promised aid and asked to pay it back because the government will realize they can't afford to do this. This issue will be buried until the 2008 elections and if Bush has not changed his tune in regards to the matters of the poor and oppressed in our own country, the Republican party will not make it for the next Presidential elections and to fill seats in the House and Senate when those are up for grabs.

It is just my opinion, but I think there needs to be a clean sweep of the government. I think everyone serving should be voted out. What a feckless bunch!
